  Fish Kuzhambu - Meen Kuzhambu - Fish Gravy


Ingredients:

  • Fish - 500gm (pomfret, salmon, vanjaram)
  • Gingely Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Shallots - 30 ( Indian small onion)
  • Coconut milk - 1/2 cup
  • Mustard seeds -2 tsp
  • Fenugreek - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 2tbsp
  • Red chilli Powder - 1 to 2 tbsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder -3 tsp
  • Tamarind pulp - 5 tbsp (thick)
  • Toamato puree  - 1/4 cup
  • Garlic - 1 tbsp (crushed)
  • Black pepper powder - 2 tsp
  • Fresh lemon juice - 3 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  • Clean and cut the fish into small pieces.
  • In a small pan heat oil add shallots and fry till slightly golden color.Grind into paste.
  • In a large pan heat oil in a low flame add mustard seeds, curry leaves, fenugreek and garlic. Add masala powders and fry for 10 to 15 minutes. Add tomato puree fry until the mixture is completely dry.
  • Add tamarind pulp to the pan. Add ground shallots mixture, coconut milk and 1 cup of water mix well. Let it simmer covered for 30 minutes on low flame. Add fish pieces cover the pan again and cook for 10 to 20 minutes on low flame. 
  • Remove from heat let the curry rest for one hour. Serve with Rice.
