 FISH KOFTA CURRY


Ingredients:

  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Egg - 1
  • Cornflour - 3 tbsp
  • Coconut milk - 1/2 cup
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

FOR SEASONING:

  • Mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • Curry leaves  - 1 tbsp
  • Mint leaves - 1 tbsp 

FOR FISH KOFTAS:

  • Fish - 500gm ( skinned deboned and cleaned fish and salted for 20 minutes)

GROUND TOGETHER:

  • Garlic - 8 flakes
  • Green Chillies -3
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Fresh Lime Juice - 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves - 1 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds - 2 tsp

FOR GRAVY:

  • Onion -1 (chopped) 
  • Tomatoes -2 (chopped) 
  • Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 3 tsp 

FOR GARNISH:

  • Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp (chopped)

Method:

Wash and mince fish very finely and mix with the kofta ingredients, egg and cornflour, shape into walnut size kofta (balls).

While you are doing this, heat enough cooking oil in a shallow frying pan, to pan / shallow fry for few koftas at a time. 

Pan fry a few koftas at a time taking care not to crowd them in the pan. Watch carefully and turn as each side gets golden. The koftas are done when they are crispy and keep aside.

For Gravy:

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a heavy pan, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, mint leaves fry for 2 minutes (medium heat). Now add onions, tomatoes, Turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt . Fry for 3 to 5 minutes (on medium heat).

Now add 1/2 cup of warm water and coconut milk to this masala and bring it to a boil on medium heat. Simmer and cook till the gravy is thickened.

Now add the koftas gently to the gravy. Cook for  2 to 3 minutes. Stir very carefully so that the koftas will turn over and cook evenly.  Stir in lime juice at the end.

Turn off the heat and sprinkle with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or saffron rice.
