 GOA FISH CURRY ( KONKANI FISH CURRY)


Excellent for the diet - conscious. there is no oil, only coconut in this dish.

Ingredients:

  • Pomfret fish - 500 gm (fish salted for 30 minutes and washed)
  • Onion - 1 (sliced)
  • Green chillies - 2 (slit)
  • Tamarind pulp - 3 tbsp
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste

For the masala grind together: 

  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seed powder -1 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chillies - 5 to 6
  • Coriander seeds - 2 tsp
  • Poppy seeds - 2 tsp
  • Garlic - 4 flakes
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece 
  • Lemon juice - 1/2 tbsp

For Garnish:

  • Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1 tbsp


Method:

Mix salt, turmeric powder and 1 tsp of chilli powder and rub into the pomfret fish. keep aside for 30 minutes.

Rub salt into the onions and green chillies and keep it for 15 minutes.

Mix the rest of the ingredients, except fish and tamarind pulp, together and microwave for 20 to 30 minutes at 50% power. Put in the fish and tamarind pulp and microwave for 10 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.

 

 

Note:

The Goa fish curry can be made a day earlier and refrigerated. Before serving microwave for 2 to 5 minutes.
